Section Data Source: University
Faculty File and Faculty Affairs
A mix of both regular and
temporary faculty members is important to maintain curricular
flexibility, to serve as a buffer against enrollment downturns
and budget reductions and to enable departments to appoint
visiting professors. Of equal importance is the need to
appoint and retain a sufficiently large number of tenured and
tenure-track faculty in each department, particularly when a
large number of faculty are reaching retirement age.
